Early Childhood Educators in centers and family homes care for our children and deserve to earn a wage that allows them to thrive. We have begun pathing toward pay parity for lead and assistant ECEs. It got better; the early childhood sector in DC has a Health Care For Childcare program. Yup, access to healthcare. We must defend the investments and demand more investments in the sector. Directors and owners of childcare centers and family homes must also receive pay supplements.
We are now working towards reducing the cost of childcare for families earning up to 300% of the poverty level in DC, which is approximately $90k for a family of four. We advocate for programs that center on developing children's social, emotional, and cognitive skills from birth to three in the first 1,000 days.
